Xoxx Composer

xoxx composer is a sound sample instrument based on the principle of a music box. instead of a rotating cylinder covered in pins that strike the tuned teeth of a steel comb, xoxx composer replaces the pins with moveable magnets and the steel comb with magnetic sensors that triggers any instrument or sound. the layout is simple and understandable and shows you the relationship between the different sounds in a mechanical pattern that can be directly manipulated by moving or poking the magnetic ballbearings. the discs are quantised in different formats and can be combined to create poly-rhythmic compositions — there are also discs without any fixed quantisation. xoxx composer is completely midi compatible and comes with a dedicated desktop app and vst. the hardware faders and knobs lets you control volume output and pitch. triggering sounds with magnets is a playful and iterative way of creating music and it can also be delightfully accidental.
