zds represents the german port industry. as a federation of state-level associations and with 190 member companies, zds strives to further improve the competitiveness of german seaport operators. zds engages german, eu and international stakeholders in economic, commercial, social and wage policy matters, and provides advice and information to its members. zds is a member of feport, unistock and the logistics alliance of germany. the german seaport operators: • 190 companies in 20 locations • serve more than a 120,000 ships per year • handle more than two thirds of german seaborne foreign trade • turn over about 300 m tonnes of cargo of all kinds, including 3.7 m cars and trucks, almost 16 m containers, 24 m tonnes of grain, oil seeds and animal feed as well as 38 m tonnes of coal, gas, oil and oil products • secure jobs for up to 500,000 people throughout germany to contribute successfully to the german economy, port operators require • an efficient transportation network • optimised
